Revisiting surrogate relaxation for the multidimensional knapsack problem

چکیده
The multidimensional knapsack problem (MKP) is a classic in combinatorial optimisation. Several authors have proposed to use surrogate relaxation compute upper bounds for the MKP. In their papers, dual solved heuristically. We show that, using modern simplex solver as subroutine, one can solve exactly reasonable computing times. On other hand, resulting bound tends be strong only relatively small MKP instances.

Ant Algorithm for the Multidimensional Knapsack Problem
We propose a new algorithm based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) meta-heuristic for the Multidimensional Knapsack Problem, the goal of which is to find a subset of objects that maximizes a given objective function while satisfying some resource constraints. We show that our new algorithm obtains better results than two other ACO algorithms on most instances.
متن کاملNeural metaheuristics for the multidimensional knapsack problem
The multidimensional knapsack problem (MKP) belongs to a very important class of integer optimization problems. In this study, we propose, develop and test metaheuristics based on the neural-networks paradigm for solving the MKP. We show how domain-specific knowledge can be incorporated within the neural-network framework for solving this NP-Hard problem. We provide a mathematical formulation o...
متن کاملCutting and Surrogate Constraint Analysis for Improved Multidimensional Knapsack Solutions
We use surrogate analysis and constraint pairing in multidimensional knapsack problems to fix some variables to zero and to separate the rest into two groups – those that tend to be zero and those that tend to be one, in an optimal integer solution. Using an initial feasible integer solution, we generate logic cuts based on our analysis before solving the problem with branch and bound. Computat...
متن کاملOSC: solving the multidimensional multi-choice knapsack problem with tight strategic Oscillation using Surrogate Constraints
The multidimensional multi-choice knapsack problem (MMKP) is one of the most complex members of the Knapsack Problem (KP) family. It has been used to model large problems such as telecommunications, quality of service (QoS), management problem in computer networks and admission control problem in the adaptive multimedia systems. In this paper, we propose a new approach based on strategic oscill...
